Evolution of DKC

A decade of building safer digital spaces.

From a social hackathon in 2016 to a national youth peacebuilding platform — how the Digital Khichuri Challenge grew into the fellowship it is today.

2016

The Beginning

Born as a Social Hackathon

The Digital Khichuri Challenge (DKC) launched in 2016 as a social hackathon — a space where young Bangladeshis could come together to develop creative digital solutions to real social problems.

  • First national youth digital innovation competition
  • Brought young people together around real social challenges
  • Implemented under UNDP's PTIB project

Growing Roots

Dialogue, Creativity & Connection

DKC deepened its work — using dialogue, discussion, and digital creativity to promote social cohesion, resilience, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across Bangladesh.

  • Focus on social cohesion and tolerance
  • Empowering young leaders and innovators
  • Building digital literacy and inclusive engagement
  • Addressing hate speech and online harms

An Ecosystem Takes Shape

From Hackathon to Movement

DKC grew from a single event into a living ecosystem — connecting youth, ideas, innovation, mentorship, and action across all eight divisions of Bangladesh.

Community-level young leaders began identifying challenges in digital spaces and developing youth-led creative solutions — moving from participation to real impact.

The Fellowship Era

The Digital Respect Fellowship

In 2026, DKC enters a new chapter — the Digital Respect Fellowship. Eight teams from eight divisions, an eight-month funded programme, and a clear pathway from idea to sustained impact.

Built on a decade of DKC's legacy — creating a new pathway from participation to implementation, and from a moment to a movement.

  • 8 teams, 8 divisions, 8 months
  • BDT 50,000 seed grant per team
  • Two residential bootcamps and dedicated mentorship
  • National Impact Showcase in February 2027
